Dole Whip is a dairy-free pineapple-flavored soft-serve frozen dessert sold only at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Lappert’s Ice Cream in San Diego ( Sssh let’s keep it a secret) and at the Dole’s processing plant in Hawaii. This legendary dessert created in 1986 has become so popular that it has morphed into other desserts like Pineapple Donuts, Pineapple Cotton Candy, and even Pineapple Churro, often sold at the parks.
Dole Whip is a treat for everyone in the family. It happens to be vegan, gluten-free and fat-free. Now, what’s in it? According to Dole’s Soft Serve website, the original recipe includes
Sugar, Dextrose, Stabilizers (Cellulose Gum, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Coconut Oil, Contains 2% Or Less Of Each Of The Following: Maltodextrin, Citric Acid, Natural & Artificial Flavor (contains Pineapple Juice Powder), Modified Food Starch, Malic Acid, Beta Carotene (Color), Mono & Diglycerides, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking).
My recipe uses only two ingredients: Frozen pineapple and coconut. That’s it! It is a healthier version without sacrificing flavor. It actually tastes very similar to the original. Give it a try and let me know what you think!!
- 4 cups frozen pineapple, small chunks
- 1 cup coconut milk ( from a can)
- Fabbri’s Amarena Cherries
- Pineapple wedges
- Blend all the ingredients in a food processor until it's like soft serve. Serve immediately or freeze for at least 1 hour for firmer texture.
- To take it up a notch, add a little bit of Spiced Rum and enjoy it as a drink.
When in doubt, be like my friend Tessa, a pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside.
